Do you sometimes wish that you could feel understood and less alone in your thoughts and struggles?

Sometimes in life you may feel isolated and lonely.  You may feel like you’re going through something, whether it’s a specific struggle or even a particular phase in life, where the people around you just can’t give you the understanding and support that you need right now.  Maybe you’re even telling yourself that you know the people in your life care about you, but they just don’t “get it”.

Perhaps you’re a parent with a child that is struggling with anxiety, and everyone is giving you advise and telling you what “you really should” do, even though they’ve never been through this themselves.  Or maybe you’re the young adult that is struggling with the new demands of adulthood or your new environment and you feel like everyone else is doing just fine while you feel like you’re getting left behind.  Or you’re possibly the teen who feels like you're drowning in the pressure to fit in and perform, yet nobody seems to grasp the weight of those expectations.

It can feel like you're speaking a different language, and no matter how hard you try to explain your feelings, it's met with blank stares or dismissive nods. In those moments, it's natural to yearn for a connection that goes beyond surface-level sympathy or well-meaning but ultimately unhelpful advice. You crave understanding—the kind that doesn't require explanations or justifications, but simply acknowledges your struggles and stands beside you in support. You want someone to say, "I've been there too," or "I understand what you're going through," without diminishing your experiences.  You don't need someone to fix you or brush off your feelings with a quick solution.  Instead, you wish someone that really understand could offer words of wisdom that might actually help and maybe help you to feel a little more understand and not quite as alone.

Group Therapy can help you feel understood and supported!

In group therapy, you find a supportive space where you can share your thoughts and feelings openly, surrounded by people who understand where you’re coming from.  It's a place where you can receive different perspectives and valuable feedback, helping you see things in new ways, which in turn can help you grow and explore solutions to the challenges you’re going through.

FAQ:

  • While both group therapy and participating in Facebook groups involve interaction with others, group therapy offers a structured and therapeutic environment led by a licensed therapist, like me, with a focus on addressing specific therapeutic goals and maintaining confidentiality and safety. Facebook groups, on the other hand, provide a more informal platform for sharing experiences and seeking support, but lack the professional guidance and structured therapeutic approach that I can offer you in group therapy.

  • Yes, you can participate in group therapy while engaging in individual therapy.  Combining individual and group therapy can offer a more comprehensive approach to your mental health services.  Often being in group therapy will actually reinforce the skills and new ways of thinking that you’re learning in your individual sessions as it provides a social context for you to practice those skills.

  • Both the frequency and length of groups vary based on the purpose of the group.  Generally speaking though most groups meet weekly, usually for 60-90 minutes each, and will last between 8 and 12 weeks.  These specifics are listed as part of the information for each group though.  You can find those specifics on the following pages.
